Health advocates rally at California State Capitol for affordable healthcare
SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Dozens of health advocates gathered at the California State Capitol on Wednesday, led by the “Fight for Our Health Coalition,” to urge the protection of healthcare coverage and address concerns about affordability.
The group claims that cuts to healthcare will cost thousands of lives in California and make healthcare less affordable. Advocates argue that corporations can afford to keep California’s health system strong.
“HR1 was not only a healthcare cut, it was the largest redistribution of wealth in our nation’s history,” said Amanda McAllister-Wallner of Health Access California. “Taking away the benefits from our most vulnerable in our country to give major tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans and major corporations, many of whom are based right here in California. It’s time for them to pay their fair share so that the health of Californians doesn’t suffer.”
After the rally, the group met with state lawmakers, urging them to find long-term solutions.
