Healthcare advocates criticize Newsom’s budget proposal over lack of plan to offset federal cuts
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Healthcare advocates rallied at the California Capitol on Wednesday to criticize Gov. Gavin Newsom’s initial budget proposal, arguing it fails to protect vulnerable residents from looming federal healthcare cuts.
The demonstration follows Newsom’s release of his proposed budget for the next fiscal year, which acknowledges reductions stemming from Congress’ sweeping federal spending package — dubbed the “Big Beautiful Bill” by its supporters — but does not include funding or a back up plan to offset the loss of benefits for individuals.
