Protesters gathered outside Representative David Valadao’s Bakersfield office, expressing concerns over potential healthcare benefit cuts. Monica Escalante, a Kern County resident and member of the union UDW, emphasized the importance of standing up against the proposed cuts.

“It is definitely important for us to stand up right now because California is going to be the one that is going to be devastated,” said Escalante, who is also a healthcare provider. She expressed worry that benefits might be reduced not only for herself but also for her clients. Escalante questioned Valadao’s absence, urging him to oppose the cuts.

“If you are saying you are making that difference, show up. You are not here. You are not saying no,” she said.
